Le Bateau, dining by the water.

My friends and I were planning to go to Sotogrande port for lunch on Saturday, due to the insane border queue to Spain, we changed the plan and went to Le Bateau in Queensway Quay instead.  This was my second visit, I went with 3 friends in last December and we were not impressed,  but this time was a different experience, we all enjoyed it very much and I will definitely be going back.

Nice view of Queensway Quay Marina.

Entrance of the restaurant.

We sat outside so that we can enjoy the view while eating.

3 of us ordered 4 starters to share, they were all good, my favourite was frog legs, it was the first time that I get to eat frog leg in Europe.

Foie gras terrine.

Moules Marinieres.

Frog legs.

French onion soup.

My main course was pork belly, not bad but I could not finished after eating too much starter.

Jian's duck in orange sauce, her only complain was duck was pre sliced before it was cooked.

Sarah's prawn and chicken casserole, she liked it.

Although we were very full after having main course, but there is always space for dessert.  We ordered lemon macaroon, strawberry clafautis and chocolate cake.  They were so good, I liked them all.  I will definitely go back for their afternoon tea and cake.

La Serrana for Sam's leaving do.

Sam has been with our department for nearly a year, he is leaving us to go back to UK.  We are so happy that he is leaving and celebrated it with good food and drink!  I AM ONLY JOKING!   Sam is fun and friendly, everyone likes him, most of us turned up at his leaving do.

Sam wanted to go to La Chimenea but the place is too small for all of us, in the end we decided La Serrana in La Linea where there are plenty of space and with large selection of tapas.

Service was quick and food arrived soon as it was just about 9pm and too early for the local to eat.

We had plenty of food, beers and soft drinks, everyone had a good time.

The restaurant is behind the church square.

    Spanish style furniture and decoration.

Anchovies canapes, it was ok, nothing special.

Russian salad, it was ok, nothing to complain.

Heuvos rotos con jaman iberico.  (Spanish ham with fried eggs and chips)
I always like this dish, I can probably have the whole plate by myself.

Jamon, we all love jamon! (except Tzhalla and Venus)

My favourite dish, fried aubergine with sugar cane syrup.

Fried squid ring, I think I forgot to eat this!

    Yummy grill meat!

We ordered 3 types of desserts, not great but at least it was homemade.

Not sure what was the name of this dessert, it was similar to flan.

    Brownie.

    Banoffee pie.

El Faro, new Mediterranean restaurant in Marina Bay.

On Tuesday evening Jian and I were planning to go to Cafe Rojo but it was closed for summer, in the end we decided to try this new restaurant in Marina Bay. It used to be another restaurant serving similar food, not sure if they have changed the owner or management, after refurbishment the place looks definitely more elegant. We enjoyed the food very much especially the paella.

    The seating inside the restaurant.

Patagonica Tapas for Bun Ee's birthday.

On Monday a group of us went to Patagonica Tapas in La Linea to celebrate Bun Ee's birthday.  It was my first time there, I enjoyed the meat but definitely not the starter and side dishes.  But still it was a good night out, we all had a great time!  Since it is a tapas place the price was a lot cheaper than Patagonia restaurant, 7 of us spent just under 100 Euros.

    Centrally located in a square.

Spicy aubergine, all I can taste was vinegar!

Entrecote steak, I liked the meat and the potato.

Nunos, Italian restaurant in Caleta Hotel.

Choo and I went to Nunos in Caleta Hotel using the voucher given by Sarah. (Thank you Sarah!)  I have not been to Nunos for a long time, it was good to go back to taste their food again.

The restaurant ambient was good, although sitting outside will get to enjoy the Mediterranean sea view, we opted to sit inside as it might get a bit chilly and I do not want to be disturbed by any bird especially seagull.

The place was almost empty with only 2 other customers and they left not long after we arrived.

There are more tables inside and outside.

Complementary food, carrot soup with beef, it was ok.

Scallops with bacon and sweet potatoes, it was really good but too pricey.

    Carpaccio with cheese, again yummy!

My main course was pappardelle with seafood sauce, my first time trying pappardelle, the pasta was too large and broad, don't think I will order papperdelle again, I liked the seafood sauce though.

Choo's mushroom ravioli with mushroom sauce, the look was a bit plain but it tasted good!

Due to we were both too full and had to skip dessert, only had mint tea instead.

Tengoku, Japanese food in Southern Spain.

Japanese food has always been one of my favourite cuisines. In Malaysia Japanese restaurants are everywhere, they usually have great selections of sushi, rolls, bento set etc.  There is a lot of competition and with 10 pounds you will get to eat a good bento set.

Whereas in Gibraltar and the nearby places in Andalusia, there aren't many good Japanese restaurant. Tengoku in Sotogrande is the only one that my Asian friends and I go most frequently. I believe the restaurant is run by Filipino, you will not see any Japanese in the restaurant, there used to be a Chinese chef who worked there and he enjoyed chatting with us in Mandarin.

Since we are not in Asia, we can't really complain much about the menu selections and price,  we are just happy to be able to get some Japanese food!  We usually spend 35 to 50 Euros per person depending on the quantity of food that we order.

Last Friday my friend and I were back to Tengoku, we ordered the usual stuff and spent just under 70 Euros.  The only complaint to the food this time was the salmon skin was not crispy as usual.

At the entrance there is a small working area for the chef.

    Seating for teppanyaki.

    Table setting.

    Tofu.

Seaweed and sesame with mirin and vinegar dressing.

Selections of sushi and roll of tamago, unagi, sweet potato and avocado, unagi and prawn, crispy salmon skin.
